SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY:
Monroe County high school graduating senior from a public, private or parochial school. Student must be of Italian descent (at least one grandparent must be of Italian heritage). Applicant must live in and attend school in Monroe County and must commence study at an accredited academic institution of higher learning in the fall of 2008.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Official Application Form: Complete and submit the application form or a photocopy of the application. Also include a self-addressed, stamped , return standard envelope. This envelope will be returned to the applicant with notification that all required materials for the scholarship have been received by the scholarship chairman.
2. Official Transcripts: A sealed copy of the applicants transcripts must be sent to the chair of the scholarship committee by the applicants high school counselor. Test scores on college admission tests such as SAT or ACT must also be submitted by the counselor.
3. Resume: On a separate page, submit a current resume outlining extracurricular activities, such as work experience, volunteer service, community service, sports, honors received, etc.
4. Letters of Recommendations: Submit three letters of recommendations from counselors, teachers, coaches, employers, etc. One of these letters of recommendations must be from the applicant’s high school counselor.
5. Essay: A 500 word essay must be submitted to the scholarship chairman. The applicant is asked to discuss what it means to be of Italian-American heritage, and to discuss the values and contributions made by Italians to American culture and society. Also discuss future goals, aspirations and major and minor fields of academic study.
6. If so requested, applicant must be available to participate in a personal interview before the scholarship committee in May, 2008 The time and place of the interview will be announced in the near future.
7. The scholarship winner will be presented his/her scholarship award at the annual Christopher Columbus Dinner Dance to be held in October 2008.
8. A check for the $1500.00 scholarship will be given to the student at the Christopher Columbus Dinner Dance made payable to the student and the college they attend. Confirmation is required that the scholarship recipient has been admitted, enrolled as a full-time student, and has commenced attendance.
9. The scholarship recipient will be the guest of the lodge at the annual Christopher Columbus Dinner Dance in October 2008 where they will address the group. Their parents and guests may attend the event but will be required to purchase a ticket to the event.
